INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Jacqui Kalin has been named to the Top 30 honorees for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award, it was announced today. Kalin and the other 29 student-athletes were selected from a group of 450 total nominees.
From those 30, which are composed of ten honorees from each NCAA division, nine finalists will be named. The 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year will be chosen from among the nine finalists by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics.
The NCAA will salute the achievements and accomplishments of the Top 30 honorees at the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year awards dinner on Sunday, Oct. 20 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Cumulatively, the top 30 earned a 3.79 GPA and nearly 50 Academic All-America honors. The top 30 earned 12 national championships (individual and team) and more than 80 All-America honors. They collectively volunteered for 365 organizations during their college careers. Many served as team captains and help leadership positions in various campus and community organizations.
“Jacqui never ceases to amaze me,” head coach Tanya Warren said. “She is truly an amazing student-athlete and continues to inspire this program and the community. I am so happy for her.”
Since graduation in May, Kalin has also been honored by the MVC with two post-graduate scholarships. She was the recipient of the Emerson Excellence Award and the Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award.
Kalin graduated with her undergraduate degree in sport psychology in 2010, posting a 4.0 GPA each year. She then went on to receive her masters in kinesiology and sport psychology. Kalin became the first player in UNI women's basketball history to be named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award along with being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American first team.
