
Panthers Sweep Braves With 8-0 Decision

PEORIA, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa softball team downed the Bradley University Braves this afternoon at Laura Bradley Park, 8-0
UNI (23-24, 13-8 MVC), plated eight runs off 16 hits in the six-inning contest. The Panthers got a quick lead over Bradley taking a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first. UNI collected runs from Caitlin Wnek and Micalla Rettinger after generating a trio of hits in the opening frame.
The Panthers' bats went quiet for a bit but came alive in the top of the fifth. UNI put together a four-run fifth inning which lifted the Panthers to a 7-0 advantage. A sixth-inning run from Nicole Fisher capped the scoring for the Panthers on the day and gave UNI an 8-0 advantage. UNI was led at the plate by junior first baseman Gina Brown who went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a walk.
Jamie Fisher started the game for the Panthers and got the win. Fisher went the distance tossing a complete game and allowed only four hits. Fisher struck out eight Braves in the shutout. With the victory, Fisher tallied her 58th career win and is two shy of tying the school record for career wins.
The Panthers will take the field again this Thurs., May 2, facing off with its intra-state rival Iowa State Cyclones. The teams are set to square off at Robinson-Dresser Field in Cedar Falls at 6:30 p.m. in a single game.
