Panthers Fall to Redbirds, 6-1

NORMAL, Illinois- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team was defeated by Illinois State this afternoon in Normal, Illinois. The Redbirds topped the Panthers 6-1.
In doubles action, the UNI team of Phoebe Walker and Krissy Lankelma got the lone doubles win by defeating Phyllis Tigges and Kadi Ives of ISU, 8-5. Emmie Marx and Stefanie Youngberg of the Redbirds defeated Chelsea Moore and Jessica King in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5) in the No. 2 doubles slot. Lindsay Cayton and Trisha Hinke fell to Carolina Abello and Heather Nisbett of ISU 8-1 in the last doubles set.
Walker got the only win in singles play for the Panthers. She defeated Marx of ISU 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 in the No. 1 match. Lankelma fell to Tigges of the Redbirds 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 2 set. Abello of ISU defeated Moore 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 3 set. King lost to the Redbirds' Ives in the No. 4 set, 6-2, 7-3 (3). In the No. 5 set, Cayton fell to Youngberg of ISU 6-0, 6-0. Nisbett of ISU got the best of Hinke in the No. 6 set, defeating her 6-0, 6-0.
The Panthers will return to the court tomorrow morning when they take on Bradley at 10:00 in Peoria, Illinois.
