
Panther Tennis Opens Up With 4-3 Win at UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team and first-year head coach Mariana Cobra picked up a 4-3 victory on Saturday over the UMKC Kangaroos.
The Panthers won the doubles point by taking both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. The Panthers' No. 1 doubles duo of Krissy Lankelma and Phoebe Walker scored an 8-4 win. The victory was Walker's 71st career doubles victory to move into a tie for sixth place on the Panthers' all-time doubles win list with Renee Kern (1983-87).
The Panthers then won three of the singles matches to take the dual by a 4-3 count. The clinching match came at No. 4 singles where freshman Jessica King captured her first collegiate triumph with a three-set win over UMKC's Suzan Lisenby - 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
UNI is now 10-0 all-time in dual matches vs. UMKC.
UNI will be in action again next Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn., against the Minnesota Gophers at 2 p.m.
