UNI Falls to ISU on the Road, 23-12

AMES, Iowa - University of Northern Iowa's Levi Wolfensperger sparked the fire that the Panthers needed, but Iowa State would edge out the Panthers in the end, 23-12.
Ryan Loder, 184 pounds, was the second match of the night and the first to give the Panthers momentum. ISU led the Panthers 3-0 in team scoring. After a scoreless first period, Loder got an escape and takedown to lead 3-0 over Boaz Beard heading into the third. A final takedown and riding time secured his 6-1 win. However, UNI lost the next three matches to give ISU the lead, and the Panthers didn't regain momentum until Wolfensperger's match at 133 pounds.
Wolfensperger found the fight in him at the end of the first period to get a last-second takedown to lead John Meeks 2-0 heading into the second. An early escape in the second put him up 3-0. Wolfensperger got his second takedown as time was running out in the third to win 5-0.
Joey Lazor, 141 pounds, was tied 2-2 with Luke Goettl heading into the third but earned 3:50 in riding time. An escape and takedown kept Lazor ahead to win 6-3 with 3:40 in riding time.
The 157-pound match was up for grabs until the third period. UNI's David Bonin had riding time advantage, but Logan Molina's takedown kept the score close at 2-2 until Bonin got a takedown with 19 seconds left to win 5-2 and earn 1:47 in riding time.
The Panthers' four wins were not enough to push the team ahead of the Cyclones who led 19-12 heading into the final match.
Michael Moreno of ISU would get the 10-1 major decision against Jarrett Jensen at 165 pounds to give ISU the final match win and team victory, 23-12.
