#12 Iowa State Tops UNI, 83-55

AMES, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's fell to the Iowa State Cyclones Wednesday night, 83-55. The Panthers have an overall record of 2-6.
Madison Weekly led UNI with 16 points and four assists while junior Brooke Brown finished with 10 points, shooting 3-for-3 from the arc. Amber Sorenson added eight points while Alyssa Johnson led the team in boards with five in her first career start.
Iowa State started the game on an 8-2 run with Madison Weekly scoring the Panthers only two points in the first three minutes of the game off a strong drive through the lane for a layup. Jen Keitel was able to get the Panthers within four after knocking in a jumper to make the score 8-4 with 16:45 on the clock.
UNI gained some offensive momentum after Weekly went coast-to-cost to put the Panthers within four again. Brooke Brown drained a three-pointer to put UNI within three and then Keitel notched a turnaround jumper to cut the ISU lead to 12-11 with 12:55 left in the first half. Just seconds later, UNI tied the score just seconds later 14-14 after Dohnalek drained a three-pointer.
Iowa State was able to score 16 straight points after the Panthers tied the score after Weekly hit a free throw, scoring UNI's first points since the 12:55 mark in the half. Weekly then drove through the lane for a layup to make the score 30-17 with 5:53 left in the half.
The Cyclones were on a 12-2 run with less than a minute left in the first half, but Stephanie Davison put in a three-pointer with 37 seconds left on the clock. Brown was able to hit one last three-pointer with a second left on the clock to end the half on a 6-0 run by the Panthers, making the score 43-26.
Iowa State came out of halftime and scored five quick points to take a 48-26 lead, but Amber Sorenson hit the Panthers fifth three-pointer of the game to stop a possible run by the Cyclones, making the score 50-29.
Weekly sparked some Panther confidence with 14:26 left in the game after hitting her second three-pointer of the game. Brown added another three-pointer with 11:06 on the clock followed by a layup from Weekly to cut the ISU lead to 57-41.
Iowa State extended its lead with 4:16 left in the game when Nicole Bloskowsky made it a 6-0 run by the Cyclones to make it a 30-point game at 78-48. Brittni Donaldson hit a three-pointer with less than 30 seconds left in the game, but the Panthers fell by a score of 83-55.
Post-Game Notes vs. Iowa State
Brooke Brown reached double-figures for the 10th time in her career. The defensive specialist finished with 10 points against Iowa State. She was perfect from the three-point line, hitting all three of her attempts.
Madison Weekly finished in double-figures for the second game in her career. She notched 16 points, just two shy from her career-high of 18.
Amber Sorenson had only scored seven points in her career prior to this season. Prior to the game against Iowa State she has been averaging seven points in the last three games and scored eight against the Cyclones, knocking down two key three-pointers.
UNI had a season-high field goal percentage against the Cyclones, shooting 44.3 percent from the field.
