UNI Falls to UTPA, 70-47

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team fell to the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs 70-47 Saturday night in the concluding game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic.
Stephanie Davison led UNI with 15 points and six rebounds while Hannah Schonhardt added 10 points and five rebounds. Madison Weekly finished with seven points and five assists for the Panthers.
UTPA got off to a 6-0 run to start the game before Davison put an end to the run with a layup, making the score 6-2 with 17:05 left in the first half. The Broncs were able to make it an 18-2 run on the Panthers at the 12:48 mark after Tonisha Walker hit nine unanswered points.
Davidson ended up scoring the Panthers first seven points of the game with Weekly cutting the UTPA lead to 11 points off a jumper to make the score 20-9. Brooke Brown cut the Broncs' lead back down to single digits after knocking down a three-pointer with 10:15 left in the half, making it 20-12.
Schonhardt made it a five-point game with 7:45 on the clock, converting on a jumper for her first points of the game to make it 22-17. She was able to keep it a five-point game just minutes later after Alyssa Johnson notched a steal, giving Schonhardt a fast break three-pointer to make the score 27-22.
UTPA jumped out to an 11-point lead to end the first half after going on a 6-1 run capped off by a jumper from Shawnte' Goff, giving the game a halftime score of 38-27.
Amber Sorenson cut it back down to a six-point deficit for UNI after hitting a three-pointer with 13:23 left in the second half. The Broncs were then able to go on a 10-2 to give UTPA a 52-38 lead with 8:33 on the clock.
UNI brought the deficit back down to 10 points after Schonhardt and Davison converted four free throws to make the score 52-42, but UTPA jumped back out to a 15-point lead with 4:19 left in the game when Kaelynn Boyd hit a three-pointer to make it 57-42.
Sorenson hit her second three-pointer of the game with 1:49 on the clock, but UTPA ended the contest on a 10-0 run, defeating the Panthers 70-47.
Post-Game Notes vs. UTPA
Stephanie Davison reached double-figures for the fifth time this season. She has now scored in double-figures in five out of the seven games this season. She finished with 15 against UTPA.
Alyssa Johnson notched a career-high tying six rebounds against UTPA.
Madison Weekly finished with a career-high five assists.
UNI had four players finish with five or more rebounds against UTPA. Stephanie Davison finished with six, just one shy of tying her career-high. Alyssa Johnson notched six while Hannah Schonhardt and Jen Keitel both added five each.
Hannah Schonhardt reached double-figures for the second time this season. She finished with 10 points.
