
UNI Takes Down Bradley in Five Sets

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team defeated the Bradley Braves 3-2 Friday night in the McLeod Center. The Panthers are now 14-3 in the MVC and Bradley moves down to 6-11.
Kinsey Caldwell recorded her first career triple-double in the win with 39 assists, 14 digs and 10 kills. Courtney Kintzel tallied 13 kills and a .346 hitting percentage. Macy Ubben had a career high 24 digs as well as 11 kills for a double-double. Shelby Kintzel had a career high 11 blocks on the night for UNI.
Bradley jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first set. A kill by Shelby Kintzel in the next play sparked a 6-0 run to help UNI take the 11-10 lead. An attack error by the Panthers in the next play started a 8-2 run for the Braves to give them the 18-12 lead. UNI fought their way back to tie the set up at 20-20. A kill by Bradley in the next play gave them the 21-20 lead, but UNI answered with a kill by Shelby Kintzel to tie it at 21-21. The set went back and forth until it was tied at 25-25. Back-to-back kills by Bradley gave them the 27-25 set win.
UNI took the early 9-3 lead in the second set. Kills by Courtney and Shelby Kintzel and Macy Ubben helped the Panthers increase their lead to eight at 19-11. UNI held onto the lead for the remainder of the set and won it 25-19 and tied the match at 1-1.
With the score tied at 6-6 in the third set, a kill by Kinsey Caldwell started a 3-0 run for the Panthers to give them the 9-6 lead. Bradley fought their way back to tie the set at 11-11. An attack error by UNI gave the Braves the 12-11 lead, but UNI answered with a block by Courtney Kintzel and Eryca Hingtgen to tit it again at 12-12. The set went back and forth until it was tied at 22-22. A kill by the Braves started a 3-1 run to give them the 25-23 set win and the 2-1 match lead.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 11-6 lead in the fourth set. Kills by the Kintzel sisters and Ubben helped UNI increase their lead to a dominate ten points at 21-11. The Panthers held the lead throughout the rest of the set and won it 25-17 to tie the match at 2-2.
In the fifth set, UNI took the early 6-3 lead. Kills by Caldwell, Courtney Kintzel, Eryca Hingtgen and Leigh Pudwill powered a 9-6 run to help the Panthers win the set 15-9 and take the 3-2 match victory.
The Panthers return to the court tomorrow night for their last match of regular season play. They will take on Loyola at 7 p.m. for senior night.
