UNI Tops Indiana State in Last Road Match of the Regular Season

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team defeated Indiana State 3-1 Saturday night in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Panthers improve to 21-7 overall and 13-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State falls to 12-16 and 5-11 in the MVC.
Macy Ubben led the Panthers with 11 kills, and Kayla Haneline had a .562 hitting percentage. Kinsey Caldwell tallied 42 assists and Amie Held notched 17 digs for UNI.
The Panthers took the early 7-3 lead in the first set. Indiana State worked their way back and tied the set at 11-11. An attack error by the Sycamores helped UNI take the lead at 12-11, but a kill by Indiana State in the next play tied it back up at 12-12. A kill by Kaya Haneline in the next play sparked a 7-3 run to give UNI the 19-15 lead. The Panthers held on to win the set 25-19.
The score was tied at 7-7 in the second set when a bad set by Indiana State helped the Panthers start a 5-0 run to take the 12-7 lead. UNI cruised through the remainder of the set and won it 25-17 to take the 2-0 match lead.
Indiana State turned the tables in the third set and got out to an early 8-4 lead. UNI fought back to tie the set up at 11-11. A block by Courtney Kintzel and Haneline gave the Panthers the 12-11 lead. The Sycamores answered with a kill in the next play to tie it at 12-12. The set went back and forth until it was tied at 15-15. A kill by Indiana State in the next play started a 4-0 run to give them the 19-15 lead. The Sycamores held onto the lead and won the set 25-18.
With the score tied at 13-13 in the fourth set, Indiana State scored back-to-back points to take the 15-13 lead. A service error and attack error by Indiana State helped the Panthers tied the set at 15-15. The set went back and forth until it was tied again at 18-18. A kill by Macy Ubben in the next play sparked a 7-3 run to help the Panthers win the set 25-21 and take the 3-1 match victory.
The Panthers return to action on Friday night when they take on Bradley at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center. This is the last regular season weekend of play for UNI.
