WBB Wins On Last Second Shot, Beats Indiana State 54-52

Jacqui Kalin led the team in scoring with 21 points and notched eight rebounds. Hannah Schonhardt added 11 points, while Keitel led the team with a career high 13 rebounds.
The Panthers came out strong in the first five minutes with three different players making baskets. Schonhardt started things off for the Panthers with a quick layup, followed by an unselfish play by Brooke Brown with a quick pass to Brittni Donaldson for two more points.
Kalin notched the Panthers' sixth point with a nice jumper to give UNI a 6-5 lead with 17:00 left in the half. Keitel also was able to notch two blocks during that time against the Sycamore's second leading scorer Racheal Mahan.
UNI went on a 7-0 run that was sparked by a jumper from Sharnae Lamar and was capped off when she hit a big three-pointer to make the score 13-7 with 12:32 left on the clock. Indiana State's Marina Laramie hit a jumper just seconds later to end the Sycamore drought, but Kalin answered with a three-pointer to give the Panthers' a lead of 16-9.
The combination of Kalin and Brown played strong defense against the MVC's second leading scorer Anna Munn, allowing her only two shots and two points in the first 10 minutes of the game. The UNI defense also forced the Sycamores to five turnovers in the first part of the half.
Donaldson gave the Panthers a seven point lead with a three-pointer with 7:02 left on the clock, giving UNI their first field goal since the 10:46 mark and making the score 20-13. Amber Kirschbaum then gave UNI an eight point lead when she scored off a turn-around jumper to make the score 22-14.
Kalin scored UNI's last eight points of the half, including two wide-open three-pointers to give the Panthers a double-digit lead of 30-20 to head into halftime. The Panthers held Indiana State to 26 percent shooting from the field, including not allowing a single three-pointer from the Sycamores.
Schonhardt and Keitel battled under the basket in the first few minutes of the second half with Schonhardt getting two more points from a hard-fought layup to make the score 34-25. Keitel battled with the Sycamore posts, but was able to come up with two big offensive rebounds.
Indiana State went on an 8-0 run while the Panthers went cold, shooting 0-6 from the field starting from the 17:29 mark. Jessica Valley gave the Sycamores' a 36-34 lead off a three-pointer to extend their run to an 11-0 mark with 11:47 on the clock.
With 11:17 left in the game, Donaldson hit her second three-pointer of the game to give the Panthers the lead against, making the score 37-36. After the 11:17 mark in the half, there were three more lead changes with Indiana State taking a 40-39 lead with 10:22 left in the game off a jumper from Mahan.
UNI cut the Sycamore lead to a point with 8:16 left in the half when Kalin enticed the Indiana State trap play and found a wide-open Schonhardt under the basket for an easy layup, making the score 42-41. After a three-pointer from Munn to give Indiana State a three-point lead, Kalin drove for a layup to make the score 44-43 with 7:18 left on the clock.
Kalin hit a huge three-pointer with less than six minutes left in the game to take the lead for the Panthers, making the score 46-45 in UNI's favor. Kalin extended their lead on another three-pointer after a defensive stop by the Panthers to make the score 49-45 with 4:41 left in the game.
Indiana State cut the UNI lead to one point on their next offensive play off a three-pointer from Munn to make the score 49-48. The Sycamores took the lead with 1:50 left in the play off a layup from Mahan, making the score 50-49.
Brown hit her first three-pointer of the game in a key play that put UNI up 52-50 with 46.7 seconds left on the clock. Indiana State was able to tie the game with 28.7 seconds left in the game off of two from Taylor Whitley to make the score 52-52.
After a missed three-pointer from Kalin, Keitel was able to score her first two points of the game with only two seconds remaining to give the Panthers the 54-52 lead.

Jacqui Kalin has reached double figures before halftime in four other games this season. She had 13 points at the half against Indiana State. This is also her fifth game this season where she has score 20 or more points in a game.
Hannah Schonhardt notched her second double-figure game of the season against Indiana State. She finished with 11 points against the Sycamores and also finished with 13 points against Chicago State.
Jen Keitel notched a career high 13 rebounds.
UNI broke Indiana State's eight game winning streak inside the Hulman Center that dated back to last season's win over Wichita State.
