UNI Knocks Off SIU, 58-45

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball squad posted a 58-45 win over the Southern Illinois Salukis on Wednesday in a Missouri Valley Conference game in the McLeod Center.
UNI's Marc Sonnen drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Panthers to a 58-45 win over the visiting Southern Illinois Salukis.
UNI improved to 11-9 overall and 4-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. SIU fell to 8-11 overall and 1-7 in the MVC.
SIU was led in scoring by Dantiel Daniels with 11 points.
UNI used a 16-5 run in the first half to open up a 19-10 lead on the Salukis with 8:41 left in the half. SIU closed the margin to 28-22 at the half.
UNI used a 12-0 run to take a 38-22 with 16:23 remaining in the game.
NOTES: The Panthers's double-digit win over Southern Illinois was the third straight double-digit victory over a Missouri Valley Conference foe at home ... it's the first time since the McLeod Center opened that UNI has won three straight over MVC opponents by a double-figure margin ... UNI improved to 27-1 under coach Ben Jacobson when holding the opposition to 50 points or less ... UNI's Marc Sonnen moved up to No. 6 on the Panthers's all-time 3-point field goals made list with his five three-pointers ... Sonnen has made 156 career 3-pointers to move past Ali Farokhmanesh (2008-10 - 152 3-pointers) ... UNI's 58 points was the lowest point total in a Panther victory this season ... the previous low in a victory was 70 at Illinois State on Jan. 5 ... coach Jacobson improved to 34-12 all-time vs. MVC schools from the state of Illinois ... coach Jake also moved to 19-1 all-time vs. MVC schools from the state of Illinois in the McLeod Center ...
