Late FTs Sink UNI at Indiana State, 59-58

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State junior guard Jake Odum sank two of three free throws with 0.3 seconds left to give the Sycamores a 59-58 win over the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team on Saturday at the Hulman Center.
UNI senior guard Anthony James appeared to drain the game-winning jumper with 3.3 seconds left on the right baseline. However after a timeout, Indiana State inbounded the pass to Odum and he drove past half-court where he threw up a running 3-pointer that missed. But a foul was called on UNI's Jake Koch with 0.3 seconds left.
UNI (11-10 overall, 4-5 MVC) led by as many as seven points in the second half. But a late 9-1 run by Indiana State gave the Sycamores a 55-52 lead with 2:57 left in the game.
James then scored the final six points for the Panthers, including the baseline jumper with 3.3 left.
James led UNI with 15 points. Koch added 13 points. Tuttle chipped in with 12 points and Mitchell posted 10 points as well.
UNI will travel to Evansville, Ind., to take on the Evansville Purple Aces on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
NOTES: Jake Koch set a career-high with four 3-pointers ... UNI made nine 3-pointers compared to only 5-of-16 for Indiana State ... senior guard Marc Sonnen has made 38-of last 66 3-point shots (57.6 percent) ... Sonnen is making 48.6 percent of his 3-pointers this season (52-of-107) ... Deon Mitchell recorded a team-high four assists ... UNI fell to 11-2 when leading at the half.
