UNI Runs Past Drake, 85-55

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team used two decisive runs to power the Panthers to an 85-55 win over intra-state rival Drake on Sunday in the McLeod Center.
The Panthers (10-9 overall, 3-4 Missouri Valley Conference) got a game-high 20 points from sophomore guard Deon Mitchell. Senior forward Jake Koch contributed with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
UNI trailed Drake, 15-11, but went on a 17-2 run to take a 28-17 lead with 6:44 left before halftime. The Panthers also put together a 16-0 run in the second half and eventually led by 36 points.
Drake fell to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the MVC. Drake was led in scoring by Richard Carter with 16 points off the bench.
NOTES: It was UNI's second straight 30-plus point win at home over an MVC opponent (UNI scored an 84-53 win over Bradley on Jan. 12) ... Jake Koch became just the second MVC player to tally 500 points, 500 rebounds, 100 made 3-pointers, 100 assists, 100 blocks and 100 steals as he tallied two steals to reach 100 career steals as a Panther ... Koch and Kyle Weems (Missouri State) are the only two MVC players to accomplish the feat ... UNI improved to 24-1 all-time when scoring 80 or more points under head coach Ben Jacobson ... UNI has won 19 straight games when scoring 80 or more points ... coach Jacobson improved to 8-6 all-time vs. Drake ... UNI has won seven of the last eight meetings vs. Drake ... UNI leads the all-time series, 37-24 ... UNI has made at least one 3-pointer in 412 straight games.
