UNI Drops Road Contest to Iowa State

AMES, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team fell to the Iowa State Cyclones on Tuesday night, 7-1.
UNI scored their lone goal in the 31st minute when senior Ashley Capone found sophomore Charlotte Jones in the open field. Jones beat the Iowa State keeper for the score, putting in UNI's first goal in over 300 minutes of play, spanning three games. The score was all the Panthers could manage on the night, and the Cyclones capitalized.
The Cyclones scored in the fourth, eighth, 15th, 66th, 73rd, 83rd, and 89th minute. Iowa State had six different players score including two goals from Jennifer Dominguez. Ashley Johnson, Jessica Stewart, Meredith Skitt, Addison Nokels, and Kaeli Flaska all tallied a goal for the Cyclones. Jessica Stewart had two assists while Ashley Johnson, Megan Longobardi, Susie Potterveld, Addison Nokels, and Lauren Waggoner each chipped in with an assist.
UNI was outshot in the match 31 to 11, including 14 to four in shots on goal. Iowa State totaled six corner kicks to just one for the Panthers.
Sophomore Charlotte Jones chipped in with three shots with two coming on goal, including the only score for the Panthers on the night. Senior Kiki McClellan fired three shots on the night. Capone and freshman Sarah McHugh fired one shot on goal each, while junior Sam Copley and freshmen Maddie Welch and Katie Witt all managed a shot on the night for UNI.
Junior goalkeeper Erin Zaideman recorded one save while allowing two goals in just over 12 minutes of play. Zaideman was replaced by fellow junior keeper Nicole Postel who tallied six saves while allowing five goals.
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Charleston, South Carolina to take on Charleston Southern. Kickoff for the match is set for 4:00 p.m.
