Panthers Get First MVC Win

WATERLOO, Iowa- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team scored their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season today. The Panthers defeated the Bradley Braves 6-1 this afternoon at Byrnes Park.
The Panther women started the day off on the right track with doubles play. Krissy Lankelma and Cassandra Dix defeated Adele Henke and Meredith McDonagh of Bradley 8-2 in the No. 1 match. The team of Jessica Kunzelmann and Nina Pfahler won their No. 2 match against Sarah Rodefeld and Corey Mattson of Bradley 8-3. Stefannia Sampaio and Chelsea Moore got the 8-4 win in the No. 3 match against Carly Miles and Jessie Bertino of Bradley.
In singles, Pfahler won her No. 1 match against Rodefeld of BU 6-3, 6-2. Dix defeated Elizabeth Przyrawski of Bradley 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 match. Kunzelmann got the best of McDonagh of Bradley, defeating her 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 match. Moore won her No. 4 match against Cassie Wojtalik of BU 6-0, 6-3. Lankelma breezed past Miles of Bradley 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 match. Sampaio fell to Mattson of Bradley 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 match.
"It was a solid win for us," said Head Coach Sachin Kirtane, "We need to come out and be ready to play a very good Illinois State team tomorrow."
The Panthers will host the Illinois State Redbirds tomorrow at noon at Byrnes Park in Waterloo.
