
UNI WBB Falls to Iowa, 68-46

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes 68-46 in Iowa City Saturday.
Brooke Brown led the team in scoring with 12 points with Jess McDowell and Jacqui Kalin both adding nine points. Amber Kirschbaum led the team on the boards with a season high 11 rebounds along with her eight points.
The Panthers got out of the gates quickly with a three-pointer from Kalin in the first thirty seconds of play to take a quick 3-0 lead. The Hawkeyes then went on a 10-0 run that extended to the 13:01 mark in the first half, giving them a 10-3 lead.
McDowell sparked UNI with a big three-pointer at the 8:57 mark in the half when she cut the Iowa lead to nine points making the score 20-11. Brown followed suit with her own three-pointer making it a 6-0 run by the Panthers.
Amber Kirschbaum cut the Iowa lead to eight points with 1:51 left in the half off a turn-around jumper making the score 28-20. Kirschbaum added another two points with six seconds left off a jump shot giving UNI only a six point deficit.
Iowa kept the lead of 30-24 into halftime. Kirschbaum finished the half with six points and six rebounds while Kalin added seven points.
McDowell hit her third three-pointer of the game to open up the second half. Brittni Donaldson then cut the Iowa lead to four points with 17:26 left in the second half off a three-pointer to make the score 34-30.
Kirschbaum ended a 10-0 run by the Hawkeyes with 14:21 left in the half off a strong offensive rebound and a put-back for two points. Hannah Schonhardt hit a pivotal three-pointer on the next offensive play to cut the Iowa lead to five points making it 40-35.
Iowa went on 8-0 run to pull away and make the score 48-36 with 8:45 left in the game. Brown hit a three-pointer with 3:52 left in the half to make the score 58-45, but the Panthers were unable to close the gap and eventually fell to the Hawkeyes.
