
WBB Scores Season High Points defeating CSU 81-41

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team finished with a season high points on their way to defeating the Chicago State Cougars Tuesday night 81-41.
Hannah Schonhardt and Jacqui Kalin led the team with 13 points each. Amber Kirschbaum finished with 11 rebounds and 12 points while Brittni Donaldson finished with 11 points and Brooke Brown and Jen Keitel both added 10.
The Panthers opened up the first half with a 9-0 run that lasted until the 16:26 mark. Kirschbaum started things off with a turn-around jumper and Donaldson ended the run with a three-pointer.
Donaldson hit her second three-pointer of the game to give UNI a 12 point lead with 10:43 left in the game, making the score 16-4. The Panthers took a large lead off an 11-2 run that took 5:19 off the clock giving UNI a 22-6 lead.
After Chicago State broke the run by the Panthers, Brown answered with two three-pointers in a row to give UNI a quick 28-8 lead with 6:58 left in the half. Brown scored her third three-pointer in a row just seconds later to give the Panthers a 23 point lead.
Chicago State cut the lead to 17 points off a 6-0 run, but Jess McDowell replied with a three-pointer to make the score 34-14 with 4:21 left. McDowell sparked a 9-1 run that included Donaldson's third three-pointer of the game.
Kirschbaum hit another signature turn-around jumper to end the first half for the Panthers, giving them a lead of 44-16. Kirschbaum finished with 10 rebounds in the first half and Brown led the team in scoring with 10 points during the half.
Kirschbaum started the half for the Panthers with two jumpers in a row, making the score 48-16. After several UNI free throws, Stephanie Davison hit her first three-pointer of the game continuing the 7-0 run by UNI giving them a 57-21 lead with 15:28 left in the game.
Chicago State went on a 7-0 run with 13:41 left in the second half to cut the Panther lead to 33 points. Kalin stopped the run dicing through the Cougar defense to put her in double figures and make the score 63-28.
With 5:01 left in the game, Schonhardt hit the Panthers ninth three-pointer of the game to make it 72-34. She followed it up with another three-pointer just seconds later to give the Panthers a 39 point lead.
The Panthers ended the game on an 11-2 run and shut the Cougars down for five straight possessions to finish the game with a final score of 81-41.
