UNI Nets 69-48 Exhibition Win Over Northern State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball
squad scored a 69-48 win over Northern State (S.D.) University in the
Panthers' final exhibition tuneup for the 2012-13 season.
UNI used a 21-4 spurt to end the first half and turned a 21-17 advantage into a 42-21 lead at the intermission. NSU's Collin Pryor's steal and dunk gave the Wolves a 7-3 lead at the 16:15 mark of the first half. UNI knotted the score at 7-7 after a pair of buckets from junior Chip Rank. Senior Jake Koch's three-pointer with 12:47 left in the first half gave the Panthers the lead for good in the contest.
Pryor scored again with 5:50 left before halftime to trim the Panther lead to 21-17, but then six different Panthers scored over the final 5:31 of the half to double up the Wolves.
UNI's biggest lead of the night came on two occasions in the second half when the Panthers built a 28-point cushion.
Sophomore point guard Deon Mitchell distributed a game-high nine assists to go along with nine points. Sophomore Seth Tuttle led the Panthers in scoring with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. Tuttle and Koch tied for team-high honors with six rebounds a piece.
NSU was led in scoring by Dustin Tetzlaff's game-high 15 points. Pryor added a game-high seven rebounds.
UNI will open the 2012-13 regular season Sat., Nov. 10 at Noon vs. the Wartburg Knights in the McLeod Center.
NOTES: UNI improved to 24-0 in exhibitions since coach Ben Jacobson joined the UNI coaching staff in 2001 ... Mitchell tallied 15 assists in the two exhibition contests to average 7.5 per game game over the two contests ... UNI forced Northern State into 22 turnovers.
