South Dakota Slips Past Panthers, 159-141

CEDAR FALLS, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa swim and dive team lost a close dual to South Dakota Saturday afternoon in Cedar Falls. The Panthers fell to the Coyotes 159-141.
Senior Bethany Hovland took first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive events. Hovland put up a score of 257.10 points in the 1-meter and 267.37 points in the 3-meter. Ally Bey took third place in both dive events with scores of 216.30 (1-meter) and 240.82 (3-meter). Sarah Kemp took second place in the 3-meter dive (251.25) to help the Panthers sweep that event.
Freshman Taylor Ostrowski took home three wins for the Panthers. She took first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.61. Fellow Panther Lindsey Phelps took second in that event with a time of 2:16.88. Ostrowski recorded another win in the 100 butterfly at a time of 1:00.47. Phelps also finished second in that event as well with a time of 1:00.98. Ostrowski rounded off winning day with a first place finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:43.89.
Freshman Sierra Sachtjen finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.05. Ashley Nelson took the runner up spot in that event with a time of 2:00.52. Sachtjen also took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.51. Natalie Johnson won the 100 backstroke for the second meet in a row. She recorded a time of 1:01.52 in that event.
The Panthers return to the pool next Friday, November 3rd, when they take on the Illinois State Redbirds at the Glen F. Henry Pool in Cedar Falls.
