Panthers Start Season With Win Against SDSU

Waterloo, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team swept the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 7-0, at home Sunday afternoon. This was the spring season opener for the Panthers.
In doubles play, Krissy Lankelma and Chelsea Moore defeated the SDSU team of Brooke Henry and Jenny Blackburne 8-3 in the No. 1 match. Jessica Kunzelmann and Nina Pfahler won their No. 2 match, defeating Megan McDougall and Bryna Nasenbeny of SDSU 8-6. In the No. 3 match, Cassandra Dix and Stefannia Sampaio defeated the Jackrabbit's Bethany Goeden and Natalia Medina 8-4.
The Panthers continued the sweep in singles play. Pfahler blew past Nasenbeny of SDSU 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 match. Dix won her No. 2 match, defeating Blackburne 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 3 match, Kunzelmann defeated Henry of SDSU 6-1, 6-1. Moore dominated her No. 4 match against the Jackrabbit's McDougall 6-0, 6-3. Lankelma defeated Medina 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 5 match. In the No. 6 match, Sampaio blew past Goeden, defeating her 6-1, 6-0.
The Panthers return to the court on February 3rd when they take on Northern Illinois at home. The match will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.
