Panthers Take Down Huskies

Waterloo, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team defeated the Huskies of Illinois State 6-1 this evening at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
In doubles play, Sara McLaughlin and Emily Rogers of NIU defeated Krissy Lankelma and Chelsea Moore 8-4 in the No. 1 match. The UNI team of Jessica Kunzelmann and Nina Pfahler won their No. 2 match, defeating Nelle Youel and Arantza De La Torre of NIU 8-3. In the No. 3 match, Cassandra Dix and Stefannia Sampaio dominated Haley Dekkinga and Stephanie McDonald 8-2.
The girls continued strong in singles play. Nina Pfahler defeated Sara McLaughlin of NIU 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Cassandra Dix fought her way back to win her No. 2 match against Nelle Youel 1-6, 6-4 (10-8). In the No. 3 match, Jessica Kunzelmann breezed past Emily Rogers of NIU 6-1, 6-3, putting her closer to the top of the all-time wins list. Chelsea Moore defeated Haley Dekkinga 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 match. In the No. 5 match, Mary Malkin of NIU defeated Krissy Lankelma 6-4, 6-1. Stefannia Sampaio won a close battle against Arantza De La Torre of NIU, defeating her 7-5, 4-6 (10-7).
"This match was a hard fought win," said Head Coach Sachin Kirtane. " We battled through it and got a good win."
The Panthers return to the court on Sunday when they take on South Dakota at 10:00 a.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
