
Panthers Rally in Second Half to Earn Draw

The Jackrabbits scored in the 21st minute with a Courtney Higgins goal. Kelsey Ferguson and Kayla Braffet each tallied an assist on the score. Kayla Braffet then scored in the 55th minute to put SDSU on top 2-0.
UNI got on the scoreboard in the 65th minute when junior Ashley Capone found junior Melissa Hagan who won the battle for the ball over an SDSU defender and goalkeeper and put it in the back of the net. The Panthers second goal came on an own goal by SDSU to knot the score at two a piece.
Head coach James Price was proud of the way the Panthers fought back in the second half. "It was a draw that probably feels more like a win. From a mental and psychological standpoint it was a huge game for us." said Price.
The Panthers were outshot in the game 21-14 but held the advantage in shots on goal, 10-7. The UNI offense was led by Ashley Capone and sophomore Claire Clark who each recorded three shots in the match. All three of Clark's shots were on goal.
Melissa Hagan tallied two shots on goal for UNI as well as the only score by a UNI player. Senior Kala Negus recorded two shots on the afternoon with one coming on goal. Seniors Ericka O'Meara, Missy Journot, Ashley Sill, and freshman Katherine Young all notched one shot on the day for the Panthers with O'Meara's and Sill's coming on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Erin Zaideman recorded five saves in the match for the Panthers.
UNI (3-5-2) will travel to Creighton for their Missouri Valley Conference opener on Fri., Sept. 23. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
