Panthers Defeat the Bulldogs 5-2

The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team (10-7) got the win in their first conference match up of the spring season. The Panthers defeated Drake University 5-2 at home this afternoon.
In the doubles, Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and Phoebe Walker defeated Jessica Aguilera and Manca Krizman of Drake 8-5 in the No. 1 match. Chelsea Moore and Lara Okicki fell to Drake's Klavdija Rebol and Gabriela Demos 8-7 (7-2) in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 spot, Krissy Lankelma and Jessica Kunzelmann blew past Amanda Aragon and Jessica Labarte of the Bulldogs 8-1.
The Panthers continued to play strong in the singles round. Walker lost a tough match to Krizman of Drake 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. Gonzalez defeated Drake's Demos, in the No. 2 match, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. In the No. 3 match, Okicki fell to Rebol of the Bulldogs 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Kunzelmann blew past Aguilera 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. Moore dominated her No. 5 match, soundly defeating Labarte of Drake 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 6 match, Lankelma defeated Drake's Aragon 6-3, 6-1.
"It was great to win our first conference match, and it was a good win as well," said Head Coach Sachin Kirtane.
The Panthers will return to the court on Saturday when they take on Bradley at 3:00 p.m. in Peoria, Illinois.
