Panthers Bash Braves Twice to Earn Season Sweep

Northern Iowa continued its' season long 11 game home stand Wednesday afternoon as they squared off against the Bradley Braves in a double-header.
NORTHERN IOWA 7 BRADLEY 3
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Mackenzie Daigh, Hannah Borschel, and Rachel Gerking strung together three straight singles to start the game and load the bases. Courtney Dunker coaxed a five pitch walk, to plate Daigh from third. Maddie Lynch-Crumrine was able to escape any further damage, as she worked out of a bases loaded jam.
Courtney Dunker added to the Northern Iowa lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run that cleared the scoreboard in left-center.
Eranne Daugharthy re-started the rally with a ringing double to left-center. Whitney Plein followed with a single up the middle, and advanced to second on the throw. Leah Embrey continued the hit parade, with a successful RBI bunt single that scored Daugharthy.
Livi Abney made it five straight hits and knocked Lynch-Crumrine from the game, as she singled up the middle to score Plein and Embrey. The Panthers led 5-0 after three innings.
UNI tacked on another run in the bottom half of the fifth to make it 6-0. Eranne Daugharthy singled and stole second, before she being brought home by Livi Abney's single down the right field line.
Northern Iowa added one more to their total in the sixth. Mackenzie Daigh doubled off the fence in center with one out and later scored on an RBI single to right by Rachel Gerking.
Bradley avoided the shutout with a three run seventh inning. Brittany Fairbairn scored two on a double to the gap in left-center. Heather Terry later scored on a passed ball.
Jamie Fisher hurled a complete game in the circle to earn her 17th win of the season. Fisher scattered seven hits and struck out eight Brave batters.
Northern Iowa had five players record multiple hits in a 13 hit attack. Northern Iowa improves to 26-23 (10-10) heading into the second contest of the day.
NORTHERN IOWA 8 BRADLEY 3
Mackenzie Daigh put the Panthers on top immediately, as she led off the game with a solo home run to center, her seventh of the year. Hannah Borschel reached on an error, stole second, and advanced to third on a flyout ahead of Eranne Daugharthy.
Daugharthy lined a single to left in front of a diving Julie Sherman to make the score 2-0 in favor of UNI. Whitney Plein added to the early offensive barrage, by smashing a two-run home run to center.
Bradley was able to cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-run home run from Kate Singler.
The Braves inched to within one in the fifth inning, as they got an unearned run. Brianne Joseph registered an RBI single to right that scored Julie Sherman and made the score 4-3.
Northern Iowa created some breathing room in the bottom of the fourth off the bat of Olivia Aten. Jaye Hutcheson doubled to the gap in left-center to lead off the inning. Aten followed with a deep two-run blast to left that put the Panthers on top 6-3.
The Panthers weren't done scoring. Mackenzie Daigh walked, and advanced to second when Hannah Borschel lined a singled off of Lynch-Crumrine.
Daigh and Borschel both advanced a base on a wild pitch before Courtney Dunker roped a single off the top of Bri Joseph's glove at second to score Daigh.Eranne Daugharthy kept the carousel moving, as she scorched a single to third that scored Borschel.
Jaye Hutcheson went the distance in the circle to pick up her sixth win of the season. Hutcheson surrendered only two earned runs, and struck out five Bradley batters.
With the sweep, the Panthers improve to 27-23 (11-10) on the season. Northern Iowa continues its' home stand this weekend, as they take on the Wichita State Shockers in a three-game set.
