Panther Women's Tennis Scores 7-0 Victory Over Southern Illinois

WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team improved to 4-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 7-0 sweep over the visiting Southern Illinois University Salukis at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
"It was good to get another conference victory," head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "We played really strong in singles and we'll need to do that again tomorrow against Evansville."
The Panthers earned the doubles point as the result of a forfeit by the Salukis at No. 3 doubles and a victory by UNI's Laia Gonzalez-Garrido was knocked off the Salukis' top pair of Melanie Delsart and Jennifer Dien. Walker and Gonzalez-Garrido led the match 3-1, but dropped the final seven games.
The Panthers cruised in singles by not dropping a single set in the five matches that were contested.
The Panthers moved to 13-7 overall on the season. UNI will take on Evansville on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
NOTES: UNI's Meredith Esbeck (2004-05), Rose Quirk (1980-81) and Kendra Lindeman (1997-98) - who all notched 24 wins in a single season ... Kunzelmann also notched her 69th career victory, which moves her into a tie for sixth place on the Panthers' all-time wins chart ... Kunzelmann is tied with Esbeck (2003-07) and Sampada Kanade (2006-10) with 69 all-time singles' victories.
