Panther Tennis Perfect on the Weekend

Waterloo, Iowa.- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks 7-0 today, making the Panthers 3-0 on the weekend. They also defeated both UMKC and South Dakota on Friday.
Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and Phoebe Walker got the day started in the No. 1 Doubles match, defeating Jill Furlong and Marcela Brandao of Western Illinois 8-2. In the No. 2 Doubles match, Chelsea Moore and Lara Okicki cruised past Amy Unzicker and Claire Griffin of WIU 8-0. Jessica Kunzelmann and Krissy Lankelma soundly defeated Madison Zimmerman and Melissa Kaufmann of the Leathernecks 8-0.
The Panthers continued to dominate in the singles matches. Walker defeated Brandao of WIU 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 Singles match. In the No.2 match, Gonzalez beat the Leathernecks' Furlong 6-2, 6-0. Okicki blew past Unzicker 6-1, 6-0 in the No.3 match. Kunzelmann dominated in the No. 4 Singles match, defeating Griffin 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 5 match, Lankelma cruised past Kaufmann of WIU 6-0, 6-1. Moore also dominated her match, beating Kara Chicoine of Western Illinois 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 6 match.
UNI returns to the court Saturday February 12 against the University of Nebraska at 2:30 p.m. in Lincoln.
