Panthers Just Shy of Win Over Cyclones

Ames, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team lost to in-state rivals Iowa State University by a score of 4-3 in Ames, Iowa, this afternoon.
The day started out promising in the doubles portion. Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and Phoebe Walker defeated the Iowa State team of Tessa Lang and Maria Fernanda Macedo 8-6 in the No. 1 match. Jessica Kunzelmann and Krissy Lankelma won a close battle against Erin Karonis and Simona Cacciuttolo of ISU 7-8 (8-2) in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 spot Chelsea Moore and Lara Okicki fell to the Cyclone team of Jenna Langhorst and Marie-Christine Chartier 8-1.
The Panthers started to lose momentum in singles action. Walker fell to Karonis of Iowa State 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Gonzalez lost a tough match to Iowa State's Macedo 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 spot, Okicki defeated Lang 6-1, 6-4, 7-5. Kunzelmann continued her recent domination in her No. 4 match where she cruised past Cacciuttolo of ISU 6-2, 6-0. Lankelma was defeated by Chartier of the Cyclones 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 5 Singles match. Moore's recent winning streak came to a close as Lisa Wischer of Iowa State defeated her 6-3, 6-1 in the No, 6 match.
The Panther women will return to the court against the University of Illinois- Chicago Saturday March 5th at 1:00 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois.
