
Panthers Keep Home Winning Streak Alive

Waterloo, Ia.- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team continued their recent home winning streak by defeating the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux 7-0 at home this morning. The Panther women also had victories against Green Bay and Milwaukee earlier this weekend.
The day started off with the doubles action. Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and Phoebe Walker led off in the No.1 match and defeated the UND team of Erin Kappers and Callie Ronkowski 8-7 (8-6). In the No.2 spot, Jessica Kunzelmann and Krissy Lankelma cruised past Hallie Welk and Stephanie Petsis of North Dakota 8-2. Chelsea Moore and Lara Okicki continued the doubles perfection by defeating UND's Megan Sween and Chelsey Galipeau 8-2 in the No.3 match.
The Panther women continued to dominate during singles play. Walker took down Kappers of UND 6-4, 6-2 in the No.1 match. In the No. 2 spot, Gonzalez defeated Petsis of North Dakota 6-4, 6-3. Okicki cruised past Ronkowski of the Fighting Sioux 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 3 match. In the No.4 Singles match, Kunzelmann took down Welk 6-2, 6-3. Lankelma dominated her No. 5 match, defeating Stephanie Biehn of UND 6-1, 6-1. Moore ended the day with a win in the No. 6 match, cruising past Galipeau 6-2, 6-1.
"It was a good weekend for us, and we came away with three solid wins," said Head Coach Sachin Kirtane. "Now we have to get ready for a big test against Iowa State next weekend."
The Panthers return to the court against Iowa State next Friday at 3:30 PM in Ames, Iowa.
