
Panthers Sweep Purple Aces in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa women's volleyball team earned its 29th win of the season Friday night with a 3-0 sweep of the Evansville Purple Aces. Game scores were 25-16, 25-15, 25-20.
UNI moved to 29-1 overall and 17-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference. UNI extended its MVC winning streak to 53 in a row with the sweep of the Purple Aces (13-19 overall, 3-14 MVC).
The Panthers were led by 11 kills from Michelle Burow and 10 kills from Shelby Kintzel. Panther setter Bre Payton recorded 34 assists, 15 digs and eight kills in the victory. Candice Burke led the defensive effort with 17 digs. Burke also chipped in with a team-high three service aces. Krista DeGeest put on a strong effort on the net as she recorded six block assists.
UNI used a 12-5 advantage in total team blocks.
UNI will travel to Carbondale, Ill., to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis on Saturday to close the MVC regular season. The Panthers and Salukis will get underway at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on KWLO 1330 AM with Brad Wells calling the action.
NOTES: UNI improved to 37-1 all-time vs. Evansville with the victory ... UNI recorded its 11th MVC sweep of the season ... Burke moved over the 500-dig mark for the season in the match ... Burke has tallied 510 digs on the year, which ranks as the sixth-best single-season mark in Panther history.
