Panthers Win At Chicago State, 88-54

CHICAGO, Ill. - Ten different players scored, and three reached double figures to help the University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team win 88-54 at Chicago State Monday night.
Senior guards Katelin Oney and Rachel Madrigal led UNI (2-0) with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Freshman Brittni Donaldson added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Madrigal also finished with six rebounds and five assists, and senior K.K. Armstrong and freshman Sharnae Lamar each dished out six assists.
Paris Williams led Chicago State (0-2) with 16 points.
Madrigal was 5-of-7 from three-point range on the way to 13 first-half points. Chicago State scored first, and the Panthers scored the next 11 points to build a nine-point lead. UNI maintained at least a seven-point advantage, leading by as many as 21 points on the way to a 41-25 lead at the break.
The Panthers shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the second half. Jess McDowell scored at 15:44 to put the Panthers in front 53-33. That was the beginning of an 11-2 run by UNI, building a 62-35 advantage. UNI held onto at least a 20-point lead from that point, leading by as many as 36 points on the way to the 88-54 win.
UNI shot 34-of-66 (51.5 percent) from the floor, including 12-of-30 (40 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Chicago State shot 20-of-58 (34.5 percent) from the floor, including 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from behind the arc. The Cougars were 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the free-throw line.
UNI held a 44-29 rebounding advantage, turning 16 offensive rebounds into 24 second-chance points. The Panthers took advantage of 20 CSU turnovers, converting them into 27 points.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Iowa at 3 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
