
UNI Sweeps Bradley, 3-0

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The No. 12-ranked University of Northern Iowa women's volleyball team ran its season mark to 17-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Bradley Braves on Friday in the McLeod Center. Set scores were 25-22, 25-11 and 25-18.
UNI was led in kills by Shelby Kintzel 's 10. Bre Payton notched a match-high 30 assists and Amy Braun secured 14 digs. UNI hit .340 in the match, including a .682 mark in the second set.
Bradley dropped to 7-9 overall and 1-6 in MVC play. The Braves were led by Annie Cave's eight kills, Madison Kemp's 23 assists and Rachelle Dejean's match-high 16 digs.
The Panthers took set one, 25-22. The Panthers trailed 16-15 but rolled off a late 5-1 run. Krista DeGeest posted five kills in six attacks in set one (.833 hitting percentage) to key the Panthers' late run. Bre Payton also sparked the offense with two kills in that stretch to propel the Panthers to the set victory.
UNI took a 2-0 set lead in cruising to a 25-11 victory in set two. The Panthers hit .682 in set two with 16 kills and only one attack error. Megan Lehman notched five kills in set two and Shelby Kintzel added four more in four swings.
The Panthers were able to close out the Braves with a 25-18 win in set three. The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed in the final game.
UNI's next action is set for Fri., Oct. 14, at Drake and Sat., Oct. 15, at Creighton.
NOTES: UNI setter Bre Payton recorded her 700th career kill in set three vs. the Braves ... Payton is the only active NCAA Division I player with 4,000 assists, 1,000 digs and 700 kills ...
