
UNI Drops MVC Home Opener to Illinois State

WATERLOO, IA - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team dropped their Missouri Valley Conference home opener to Illinois State, 2-0.
Illinois State scored their first goal in the 10th minute when a corner kick from Anna Stinson found Rachel Bostick for the header that found the back of the net.
The match remained at 1-0 until the 61st minute when a cross from Kyla Cross found Rachel Tejada who put it in the back of the net.
UNI was outshot in the game 20-11 but held the advantage in shots on goal, 5-4. The Redbirds held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-7.
Four Panthers recorded shots on goal in the match. Junior Ashley Capone led the way for UNI with four shots on the night with one coming on goal. Junior Kiki McClellan added three shots with one coming on goal.
Sophomore Allie Brees, senior Missy Journot, and junior Kelsey Dolder each added a shot on goal in the match. Freshman Caitlyn Fuller also recorded a shot for the Panthers.
The Panthers junior goalkeeper Erin Zaideman tallied two saves in the match.
UNI (3-7-2, 0-2-0) will return to action on Fri., Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. when they host the California State University, Bakersfield Roadrunners. The game will be played at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex.
