
Panthers Top SIU 79-39 For Sixth Straight Win

UNI (14-5, 7-1 MVC) had four players score in double figures, led by Katelin Oney's 16 points. K.K. Armstrong tallied 13 points, three assists and five steals. Erin Brocka led UNI with nine rebounds, and Rachel Madrigal and Amber Kirschbaum each finished with eight.
SIU was led by Katrina Swingler's 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Panthers led the Salukis 22-16 with 3:45 left to play in the first half. UNI forced five SIU turnovers through the rest of the half, four of them coming on UNI steals, and ended the period on a 12-0 run to take a 34-16 lead into the break.
SIU scored first in the second half, but UNI got baskets from Boeck, Oney, Kalin and Brocka in a span of less than two minutes to score nine quick points and build a 45-18 lead with 16:14 to play.
Boeck hit a three with 11:45 to play that put UNI in front, 56-24. The Panthers maintained at least a 30-point advantage the rest of the way, leading by as many as 42 points in the process.
After shooting 30 percent (13-of-33) from the floor in the first half, UNI shot 15-of-27 (55.6 percent) in the second period to improve to 41.7 percent (25-of-60) for the game. UNI connected on 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) from behind the arc, and the Panthers shot 22-of-31 (71.0 percent) from the free-throw line.
The Salukis shot 13-of-45 (28.9 percent) from the floor, including 1-of-13 (7.7 percent) from three-point range. SIU was 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
UNI committed 16 turnovers, resulting in eight Saluki points. SIU turned the ball over 31 times, 19 coming on UNI steals, resulting in 36 points. UNI scored 11 fast-break points in the victory.
The Panthers held a 42-33 rebounding advantage, and limited SIU to six offensive rebounds.
