Panthers Advance on Day Two of UNI Invitational

WATERLOO, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team advanced four individuals and one doubles team on the second day of the UNI Women's Tennis Invitational at Byrnes Park on Saturday.
Phoebe Walker advanced to the semifinals of the Platinum Flight, winning 7-6, 6-2, over Erin Kappers of North Dakota.
In the Gold Flight, UNI advanced two individuals to Sunday's semifinals. Chelsea Moore won 6-1, 6-1, in a quarterfinal match against Mariana Spilca of Minnesota. Jessica Kunzelmann posted a 6-4, 6-3, win over Jessica Labarte of Drake to advance.
Krissy Lankelma claimed a spot in the Silver Flight semifinals with a 6-1, 6-2, win over Megan Gow of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Kunzelmann and Moore will play for the Gold Flight doubles championship on Sunday after posting an 8-3 match victory in Saturday's semifinals.
“It was an outstanding day, even though we did lose a couple of matches where we had match points,” said UNI head tennis coach Sachin Kirtane. “We are looking forward to tomorrow's matchups.”
Tournament play will continue at 9 a.m. Sunday at Byrnes Park in Waterloo.
