
Softball Scores 9-2 Win Over Bradley

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Jen Larsen tallied four hits, two of them doubles, to lead the Panther offensive attack as the University of Northern Iowa softball team topped Bradley 9-2 in Missouri Valley Conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Robinson-Dresser Complex. The Panthers (21-20, 8-8 MVC) totaled 10 hits in the victory, including a pair each from Megan Machovec and Lindsay Callanan. Melissa Tillett earned the win after allowing two runs and striking out three through 4.1 innings. Jaye Hutcheson was credited with a save, giving up one hit and striking out three in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. Bradley (15-25, 5-12 MVC) totaled six hits in the loss, including two each from Janay Mitchell and Kate Singler. Katie Dennis was charged with the loss. Bradley scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to build an early 2-0 lead. Lindsey Callanan drove a single up the middle with the one out and the bases loaded to drive in a pair of runs and tie the game, 2-2. Jen Larsen followed with a double into left center, putting runners on second and third. Livi Abney singled into right, scoring Daigh and Larsen to extend UNI's lead to 5-2. Machovec reached on a dropped third strike with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Daigh flied out to left, but Machovec advanced on the play. Larsen doubled off the wall in right to send Machovec home and give UNI a 6-2 advantage. The Panthers used a pair of hits, a Bradley error and a pair of walks to tack on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the score to 9-2. The Panthers left just four runners on base, compared to eight for the Braves. UNI returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Evansville in a doubleheader starting at noon.
