The UNI Panthers (9-8, 2-2) dropped their second conference match Saturday, falling to the Southern Illinois Salukis, 4-3. The Salukis (12-7, 3-1) won four out of six singles matches to claim the victory.
UNI got off to a promising start, earning the doubles point. Junior Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and sophomore Sampada Kanade and sophomore Sampada Kanade put up a fight but could not pull out the win, falling to Southern Illinois' Dien (No. 3), 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. Sophomore Jessica Kunzelmann kept her consistent play as she defeated Vianna Ce 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. The Salukis' final and match-sealing victory came from Cruise as she defeated Sampaio (No. 5), 6-4, 6-2.
The Panthers will take on the Evansville Purple Aces tomorrow in Indiana. The match time is slated for 10:00 a.m.
