The University of Northern Iowa men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first day of competition at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nev. The event marks the opening of the spring season for the Panthers.
UNI posted a team score of 310-303--613 (+37) through the first two rounds, which puts them in a tie with South Dakota State University for eighth place among the 17 teams in the event.
Freshman Tyler Johnson (154), sophomore Matt Sargent (155), senior Kyle Bermel (157) and junior Jared Doerfler (159).
All five Panther competitors are within six strokes of each other with one round to play.
The University of Nebraska leads the team standings with a first-day total of 286-295--581 (+5). Brandon Crick of Nebraska is atop the individual leaderboard with a 69-70--139 (-5).
Play will conclude with the third and final round on Tuesday, Mar. 16.
