Huskies Sneak Past Panthers

Waterloo, IA – The UNI Panthers (3-3) lost their second straight match Friday as they fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies (3-4), 4-3. The Huskies started things off right as they earned the doubles point which seemed to be the deciding factor.
Northern Illinois' Brooke Forsberg paired up with Emily Rogers to defeat UNI's Sampada Kanade and Talia Jang-Stewart in No. 1 doubles, 9-7. The Huskies' Kathryn Friedlund and Sara McLaughin then edged junior Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and sophomore Laia Gonzalez-Garrido was barely edged out by Northern Illinois' Emily Rogers 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the No. 2 position. Kanade continued her consistent play as she beat out Fausett 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. Kunzelmann got the last UNI point as she beat NIU's McLaughlin 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot. From that point, however, the Huskies caught fire and won the last two remaining matches to secure the win.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. as they face the South Dakota Coyotes at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
