Ferlito Scores Twice in Panthers' 3-2 Loss to Creighton

WATERLOO, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team came up short against Creighton, dropping a 3-2 decision Saturday afternoon at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.
UNI (2-9-1, 0-2-0 MVC) found the back of the net first, taking the lead in the eighth minute with a goal by senior Nicole Ferlito. Laura Heaton and Ashley Sill earned assists.
Creighton (9-2-2, 2-0-0 MVC) answered with goals in the 11th and 19th minutes to take a 2-1 advantage. Erin Gunther scored the first Bluejay goal and Brittney Neumann notched the second.
Creighton extended its lead to a 3-1 margin with a 60th-minute goal from Macy Mauer.
Ferlito scored again in the 71st minute with a penalty kick after she was fouled in the box, but UNI was unable to find the equalizer in the final 19 minutes.
UNI and Creighton each registered 13 shots in the contest. UNI junior goalkeeper Lauren Potzman recorded six saves. Sophomore Melissa Hagan put two shots on goal for the Panthers.
UNI will return to action on Sun., Oct. 3, for a 1 p.m. home match with the University of South Dakota Coyotes.
