
Panthers Finish in 6th Place at ORU Shootout

The University of Northern Iowa men's golf team concluded play with a 313 team score to finish with a 314-300-313—927, good enough for 6th place at the ORU Shootout in Broken Arrow, Okla. The Panthers fell two spots on the final day of action but were able to remain in the top half of the 12 teams competing. Texas State held on to win the team title by ten strokes over runner-up Missouri State, 902 to 912.
The Panthers were led by senior Kyle Bermel, who posted a final round 75 to finish in a tie for 9th place in the individual standings. Bermel shot 78-75-75—228 for the tournament. Freshman Tyler Johnson (234) and Troy Hoffman (236) and sophomore Matt Sargent (242) were the other golfers competing.
Jay McBride of Missouri State fired a final round 67 to claim medalist honors.
The UNI men's golf team returns to action at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill., on Oct. 11-12.
