CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Missouri State jumped to an early 1-0 lead on the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team and the Panthers were unable to recover, giving MSU the 1-0 win in UNI's Missouri Valley Conference opener.
The Bears' Becky Handley took a pass from Jenna Dobkins and scored the only goal of the contest just 21 seconds into the game.
“Unfortunately we let them get that goal in the first 30 seconds and had to fight back the rest of the game,” UNI head coach James Price said. “I'm proud of our team's effort; we just have to be smarter at the start of the game.”
Nicole Ferlito paced the Panther offense, registering two shots. Goalkeeper Lauren Potzman registered six saves in the contest.
UNI returns home next weekend, hosting Evansville Friday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
