Volleyball Sweeps Evansville for 11th Straight Win

The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team extended its win streak to 11 with a 3-0 Missouri Valley Conference win over Evansville Saturday night in the McLeod Center. The Panthers (13-2, 4-0 MVC) won by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-16.
Shannon Aschoff led the Panthers with 16 kills, notching her 1,000th career kill in the process. Amy Braun finished with 12 kills and 12 digs. Ellie Blankenship led UNI with 17 digs, and Bre Payton finished with 37 assists. Krista DeGeest led UNI with three blocks.
The Panthers hit .486 in the first set, and they used a 10-4 run to end the period, taking the 25-14 win.
Leading 8-4 in the second set, UNI used a 10-3 run to extend its lead to 18-7. The Panthers maintained at least an eight-point edge through the rest of the set, wining 25-13.
Evansville led the third set early, taking a 9-5 lead on a kill by Emily Wandersee. UNI scored three straight to pull within a point. After Evansville scored to end that streak, UNI used another three-point run to take its first lead of the set, 11-10. Neither team led by more than a point until UNI scored four straight to build an 18-14 lead. After a kill from Wandersee made it 18-15, the Panthers scored the next five points to take a 23-15 advantage. UNI scored two of the final three points to take the set, 25-16.
UNI hit .402 as a team in the match while holding Evansville to .105.
UNI's 11-match win streak is its longest since winning 11 from October to December 2006.
The Panthers return to action on Friday when they play at Bradley.
