CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Iowa scored three early goals the first half and the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team was never able to recover, falling 3-0 to Iowa Sunday afternoon.
Jackie Kaeding scored the Hawkeyes first goal in the fourth minute to open the scoring for Iowa. Keli McLaughlin scored Iowa's next goal just three minutes later and then added her second goal in the 18th minute.
"We just didn't get off to a good start today," head coach James Price said. "We didn't defend well on the first two goals and the third goal killed our momentum."
Nicole Ferlito and Mel VanVlair led the Panther offensive attack, both registering a pair of shots. Goalkeeper Lauren Potzman recorded six saves.
UNI returns to action Friday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Columbia, Mo. to face Missouri. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
