PEORIA, ILL. – UNI women's tennis (13-7, 2-4) earned its first conference road victory Sunday with a 7-0 win over the Bradley Braves (8-11, 0-6) Sunday. The sweep proved to be a solid recovery for the Panthers who were riding a two-game skid over the weekend road trip.
UNI experienced its only loss of the match in doubles play. Bradley's Nicole Miller and Emily Regenold topped Sampada Kanade and Diana Mendez at the No. 1 spot, 8-6. From that point, the Panthers won every remaining match and set. Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and Taynara Moraes and Jessica Kunzelmann defeated Erin Krubeck and Kim Braun by the same score.
In singles competition, the Panthers emerged victorious in every set. Walker, competing for the second consecutive match at the No. 1 spot, continued her undefeated streak at the top position (3-0), defeating Miller, 6-2, 6-4. Gonzalez-Garrido (No. 2) topped Wojakowska, 6-2, 6-3. Improving their team-best dual meet records to 14-6, Kanade and Kunzelmann handled their opponents, Regenold and Donohue, by scores of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-3, 6-1, respectively. Moraes and Mendez completed the Panther sweep with victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Moraes topped Krubeck, 6-2, 6-4, and Mendez defeated Braun, 6-1, 6-3.
“[The shutout] was a good way to get a win on the road after a tough weekend,” said head coach Sachin Kirtane.
The Panthers will finish in-season conference play next weekend as they take on Wichita State and Creighton at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. UNI faces the conference-leading and nationally-ranked WSU Shockers at 1 p.m. on Saturday then the Creighton Blue Jays at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
