Panthers Defeat Penguins, 28-7

The University of Northern Iowa football team regained its winning ways with a 28-7 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday in the UNI-Dome. With the victory, the Panthers improve to 6-3 and 4-2 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Redshirt freshman running back Derrick Law carried 12 times for 58 yards and senior quarterback Pat Grace had 13 carries for 42 yards, finding the endzone twice in the contest. Junior running back Matt Strathman also found the endzone in the fourth quarter and carried the ball for 17 yards in the game.
Anderson was also a force on the Panthers' kick return team, taking two returns for a total of 91 yards to total 204 all-purpose yards for the game.
As a team, UNI outgained the Penguins 230-74 on the ground and 334-238 in total offense.
Grace was 12-of-17 through the air for 104 yards. D.P. Eyman caught five passes for 36 yards to lead the Panthers' receiving corps.
Junior Jamar Thompson led the UNI defense with 12 tackles and made the team's only takeaway of the game with a fourth-quarter interception.
UNI scored on its first possession of the game with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that lasted 5:24. The Panthers found the endzone on Anderson's run from 12 yards out and led 7-0 with 6:31 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Panthers made another 80-yard drive in nine plays to score their second touchdown of the day. Grace had a two-yard touchdown run up the middle and the Billy Hallgren PAT put UNI up 14-0 with 10:21 left in the second quarter.
Youngstown State put together an 8-play, 47-yard drive to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Brandon Summers found Dominique Barnes with a 10-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-7 with 1:28 left in the half.
Anderson returned the ensuing kickoff 48 yards to the YSU 33-yard line, and the Panthers were able to capitalize with a three-yard touchdown run by Grace with only 0:13 on the clock to take a 21-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Strathman added the Panthers' final score with a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter. Thompson intercepted Summers on third-and-seven from the UNI 13-yard line to end the Penguins' scoring threat late in the fourth quarter.
UNI returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 14, against the Western Illinois Leathernecks in the UNI-Dome. Kickoff is slated for 6:35 p.m.
