CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team remained perfect in Missouri Valley Conference play after posting a 3-0 win over Indiana State Saturday night in the McLeod Center. The Panthers (24-2, 14-0 MVC) earned the win after posting set scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-21.
Michelle Burow led UNI with 14 kills, and Amy Braun added 10. Ellie Blankenship finished with 20 digs and four service aces, and Bre Payton notched 35 assists, 16 digs and eight kills.
The Panthers outhit the Sycamores (7-22, 3-12 MVC), .305 to .152. UNI also collected more blocks (6.0 to 4.0) and digs (70 to 51) than Indiana State.
Beth Discher paced UNI with seven digs to help the Panthers claim the 25-14 win in the first set. UNI hit .382 in the second set, including six kills from Burow, winning the frame, 25-15.
The third set stayed closer, with neither team holding more than a three-point edge until UNI scored three straight to take a 24-20 advantage. The Sycamores were able to fend off match point once, but a kill from Braun sealed the Panther victory.
The win extends UNI's win streak to 22, the longest since winning 24 straight in the 2000 season.
UNI returns to action on Friday when it plays at Missouri State.
