Women's Basketball Falls at Missouri, 74-57

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team fell behind early and was never able to come back in a 74-57 loss at Missouri Sunday night in Mizzou Arena.
K.K. Armstrong, Kim Wypiszynski each finished with nine points for UNI (0-2). Boeck led UNI with seven rebounds, and Armstrong and Erin Brocka each grabbed six. Armstrong also finished with five assists for the Panthers.
Amanda Hanneman led the Tigers (1-0) with 26 points, 18 coming from three-point range.
The Panthers were held to just three points through the first 10 minutes of play, allowing the Tigers to build a 19-3 lead. Mizzou extended its lead to 29-7 with eight minutes to play in the first half. The Panthers were able to pull within 18, but the Tigers extended their lead to 41-16 going into the half.
UNI outscored Missouri in the second half, and the Panthers pulled within 15, 69-54, when Kim Wypiszynski connected on a layup and free throw with 1:23 to play. It was too little too late, however, as the Tigers went on to take the 74-57 win.
After shooting just 6-of-26 (23.1 percent) from the floor from the first half, the Panthers finished 18-of-52 (34.6 percent) from the floor. The Panthers finished 3-of-16 from three-point range. UNI connected on 18 of 29 free throws (62.1 percent).
Missouri shot 29-of-70 (41.4 percent) from the floor, including 9-of-24 (37.5 percent from three-point range. The Tigers finished 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the free-throw line.
The Panthers committed 21 turnovers in the game, which Missouri turned into 19 points. UNI scored two points off of Mizzou's two turnovers. UNI outrebounded Mizzou, 45-39
The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they host in-state rival Iowa.
