
Volleyball Tops Indiana State, 3-0

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team improved to 15-2 on the season and 6-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play when it topped Indiana State 3-0 Friday night in league action in Terre Haute. UNI won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17 to claim its 13th straight victory.
Shannon Aschoff led the Panthers with 11 kills each. Bre Payton led UNI with 36 assists, and Ellie Blankenship tallied 24 digs. Krista DeGeest finished with four blocks in the match.
Tied 16-16, the Panthers ended the first set on a 9-2 run to claim the 25-18 victory. UNI jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the second set, and the Panthers led by at least three points until the Sycamores (5-14, 1-6 MVC) forced a third set point by bringing the score to 24-22. Aschoff used an assist from Payton to come up with a kill and give the Panthers the 25-22 set win. Indiana State scored the first three points of the third set, but UNI answered with a 5-0 run that gave the Panthers the lead. UNI never looked back to take the 25-17 win and claim the match.
UNI outhit the Sycamores, .264 to .154, and the Panthers held a 10-4 edge on blocks.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they play at Illinois State.
