CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Oklahoma State Cowboys finished their day with a 1-1 mark in the state of Iowa by dropping a 24-12 decision at Iowa State and then securing a 31-3 victory over the University of Northern Iowa Panthers.
UNI fell to 6-5 on the season, while Oklahoma State improved to 12-5 in dual action. The Panthers tallied a victory at 149 pounds from junior Brett Robbins to give the home crowd a chance to make some noise in the McLeod Center.
Robbins victory at 149 pounds came after the Cowboys had begun the dual with eight wins to open up a 28-0 advantage. Robbins came back from a 3-2 first-period deficit to earn his third victory of the season over Oklahoma State's Luke Silver. Robbins scored the winning points on a takedown at the 1:01 mark of the third period. Silver was awarded an escape with 23 seconds left to pull with one point of Robbins. Silver made one final shot in the closing seconds but it was successfully defended by Robbins.
The Cowboys' Brandon Mason began the dual with a 5-0 upset of No. 2-ranked Moza Fay at 165 pounds, 5-0. Newly McSpadden added to the OSU lead with an 8-2 victory over Scott Hazen at 174 pounds.
Oklahoma State's Cody Hill topped Alex Dolly at 184 pounds, while Clayton Foster moved to 22-2 on the season with a 9-4 decision over UNI's Andrew Anderson at 197 pounds.
No. 1-ranked Jared Rosholt pinned Christian Brantley at the 2:17 mark of the heavyweight match following a throw to move the Cowboy lead to 18-0 at the intermission.
Obenson Blanc tallied a 12-4 major decision over UNI's Steven Fitzgerald at 133 pounds.
Jamal Parks held a 3-2 lead in the closing seconds against UNI's Trent Washington. Washington then attempted a cartwheel that left him on his back and Parks picked up another takedown to close out the 5-2 victory at 141 pounds.
Robbins notched his 6-5 victory over Silver at 149 pounds, and OSU's No. 11-ranked Neil Erisman hung on for a 3-2 decision over UNI's Tyson Reiner at 157 pounds to close out the evening's matches.
UNI will host Northern Illinois on Fri., Jan. 30, in the West Gym at 7 p.m. as a part of Military Appreciation Night.
