Panthers Earn 3-1 Win Over North Dakota

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team earned its second win of the weekend, topping North Dakota 3-1 Sunday afternoon. Chelsie Hochstedler, Laura Heaton and Nicole Ferlito all registered goals for the Panthers while KJ Shepard was credited with two assists. The Panthers out-shot the Fighting Sioux 19 to nine, allowing the Sioux just five shots in the second period.
North Dakota jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Lauren Hermann scored off a shot from the right side at the 8:05 mark.
UNI tied the score at 1-1 when Hochstedler took a pass from Shepard and found the back of the net at the 12:31 mark. Hochstedler currently leads the Panthers with 13 points, registering six goals and one assist for the Panthers this season.
The Panthers then took the lead when Heaton broke through the defense slipped the ball past Sioux goalkeeper Lauren Sera at the 39:12 minute mark.
UNI extended the lead to 3-1 at the 81:31 mark when Ferlito scored her fifth goal of the season off a pass from Shepard.
UNI goalie Lauren Potzman registered four saves for the Panthers in the contest.
UNI (3-9-1) returns to action Wednesday night when they host Missouri Valley Conference and in-state foe Drake at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
